Perl and BitTorrent

I'm developing a seriously unhealthy fascination with this protocol. Thinking of spending some time understanding the nuts and bolts to see if I can help in correcting the major flaws I can so far detect - untimely expiration of trackers and lack of centralized lookup of torrents.

I think I'll start with the BitTorrent Perl module that someone's already written.....
